Adele Warner-Tate
My interest in photography began around eight years ago during holidays to Scotland, initially using a small point & shoot camera. Capturing fleeting moment in time were memories of a fabulous week away in the stunning Highlands of Scotland to look back on & share with family & friends. Scotland became a place of rest, relaxation, inspiration & creativity and sparked a desire to learn more about photography.
My very first DSLR camera, a Nikon D3300 meant that I was able to experiment using the manual functionality of the camera allowing me to be more creative in my photography, something which the point & shoot hadn’t previously allowed. I invested time in researching, tutorials & one day workshops to improve my photography, heading out with the camera at every opportunity to put into practice what I had learnt.
Having a full time job as a HR Advisor meant that time was limited but also precious. The busy fast pace of life was in stark contrast to the quiet peaceful feeling at sunrise or sunset, being out in nature enjoying a sense of calm. Photography became more than just heading out with the camera to practice, it became a release from the every day, a way of dealing with personal challenges and taught me an appreciation, almost opening my eyes to a very different way of life. The combination of having a creative outlet and finding a sense of peace became something that I craved at every opportunity.
A particular interest in ND filters & long exposures felt magical and exciting, eventually leading to a passion for coastal & seascape photography. Having focused on this genre of photography for many years, I still feel most at home on a beach enjoying all that the coast has to offer from the roaring waves at high tide to interesting patterns and shapes etched into the sands during low tide. In all weathers, all seasons and at any time of day.
Leaving behind a career, the security of a well paid job & benefits was daunting but choosing a lifestyle that allows more time for photography, creativity and a different way of life in the Outer Hebrides feels more rewarding and self fulfilling.
Photography has provided me with so many benefits, much enjoyment and connects us not only to nature but to each other, meeting other photographers & creatives is inspirational, chatting with them via the podcast is a joy.
Aside from photography I enjoy visiting exhibitions, poetry, music and walking our three dogs, Bonnie, Belle & Skye.
Always learning, feeling inspired, sharing and celebrating others..
